R_ECOLLAGE - Hungary

The SpanishFlu WebJournal of Art presents

the 4th International SpanishFlu Mail Art Biennial

Hernádkak, August 2012

Debrecen, University of Debrecen, October 2012

The International Mail Art Colony of Hernádkak

The Hungarian Electrographic Art Society

The Department of Economics and International Affairs at the University of Debrecen

We would be honoured to see you among the participants of the exhibition.

The technique of collage, first used in China at the time of inventing paper, was re-discovered in Europe one hundred years ago by Picasso and Braque. One of Picasso's first collages was the Still Life with Chair Caning, done in May 1912.  The 4th International Spanish Flu Mail Art Biennial, entitled R_ECOLLAGE is an homage to the renovators of art, and also an opportunity for the experimenting artists to enrich their modes of expression.

The term collage is derived from the French word "coller" which means "to glue". A collage may sometimes include newspaper clippings, ribbons, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs, glass, textile, string, rope, wire and other found objects, glued to a piece of paper, canvas, silk, wood, chipboard, metal, etc.

The exhibition is exclusively held for works of the theme concerned, created for this occasion and

sent by conventional post. All the art works will be displayed independently of its form, size, material,

technology, if it arrives as a postcard, a letter or a package. Any other type of work delivered in an

envelope or in wrapping also will be exhibited if it not only has a link to the topic of R_ECOLLAGE

but refers to the mail art as well. Number of works is unlimited.

Mail art can be two or three-dimensional works of art posted 'uncovered' and those put into an

envelope (or other 'cover') whether they are drawings, graphics, photos, paintings, artists -stamps,

stamp carvings, artists books, objects or other works of art connected to the topic stated. Feel free to

use the most postal elements or extra services possible (spectacular stamps, registered letter, special

delivery) in order to decorate your mail art work.

The exhibition of the Mail Art Biennial will be presented at the website of the SpanishFlu WebJournal of Art (www.spanyolnatha.hu).

All mail art pieces sent to the exhibition will remain at the Marcelland International Art Collection.

The organizer holds a juried competition for an International Mail Art Award of Excellence. Each award-winner will be given the opportunity for an individual web-exhibition of his/her works in the SpanishFlu WebJournal of Art. Beside this, the Jury will grant the Award of the International Mail Art Colony of Hernádkak, that will support the artists with accomodation, art supplies and equipment.

Mail art works are to post to the address below:

Spanyolnátha, H-3504 Miskolc, Postafiók: 77. Hungary

Deadline of arrival: 15 July, 2012.

70 for John M. Bennett - USA

send mailart on the theme of 70 and/or John M Bennett to:
The 70 Project c/o C Mehrl Bennett
137 Leland Ave
OH 43214

John M. Bennett, poet and head of Luna Bisonte Prods, will turn 70 in October
2012. Also note that he likes skulls and October is the month for All Saints’
Day/Day of the Dead/Halloween. I hope to have a venue for John to
perform his poetry with other sound artists here in Columbus, and will
definitely display THE 70 PROJECT mailart at that time. If
nothing else it will be available in a box to browse and well as scanned and
posted to a documentary blog for which I will post the website address HERE and
THERE and perhaps YOU ALL will spread it to all corners of the earth. Feel free
to invite others to contribute mailart to this project.
